The paper describes early testing work to apply SRP’s shrink-fit technology so as to make connections between titanium pipes without welding and was written by Paul Brett with co-authors Karim Jan and Simon Luffrum. The award, presented by Penwell’s Eldon Ball, described how SRP conducted pull-out and fretting tests based on an interface of titanium to a nickel alloy. The nickel alloy approach was on the basis that the titanium would need to be electrically isolated from the steel flange or sleeve. Presenterof the paper, Karim Jan, upon collecting the award said, “This is another example of how SRP is developing and delivering the technology that our industry needs. We might not yet be the biggest but bigger isn’t always better”. SRP is cooperating with the Titanium Metals Corporation (TIMET) to apply titanium in an efficient, effective way in the upstream oil and gas industry. SRP and TIMET co-hosted a private industry event during DOT. |

SRP’s technical paper entitled, “Why Shrink Steel Flanges to Titanium Pipe?” won the best paper award at Deep Offshore Technology Conference in Houston.
