Bearing Development Update

After testing a number of marine bearings in representative loading and environmental conditions SRP have passed 5,000,000 cycles of wear with a bearing being named Slide-Max. This proprietary bearing is the result of considerable effort and development work both in house and by component suppliers.

Richard Hockley, technical manager, said, “We’ve observed minimal bearing wear over both small and large angle oscillations.  Our results are good but our clients want to see life-of field wear distances for 25 years so we’ll continue our tests until we achieve data representative of this service.”

SRP expect that the bearing data will instill confidence in such bearings that has been lacking till now thereby allowing Slide-Max bearings to be designed into other riser products in its range.
