SRP’s QUICK-DRILL-T is a quick make-up, light-weight marine drilling riser connection. QUICK-DRILL-T achieves the benefits of a flanged riser with a make-up speed significantly faster than bolted designs without compromising inspectability or replaceability of critical components. The QUICK-DRILL-T can either be manufactured as part of a marine drilling riser order, or in some cases it is possible to re-machine existing riser flanges to accept the TRI-PIN connector, providing the rig owner with a quick method of increasing riser running speed.
SRP can provide a number of technical advantages during QUICK-DRILL-T supply, which include:
- Simple, robust design
- Captive TRI-PIN’s reduce manual handling at drill floor
- TRI-PIN’s are easily inspectable and can be quickly removed for replacement if required
- Removal of bolt torquing operations and uncertainty in applied preload
Compared to conventional solutions QUICK-DRILL-T offers important commercial advantages to a project:
- Cost effective design
- Reduced running time compared to a standard bolted flange riser.
The QUICK-DRILL-T marine drilling riser coupling is made-up by simply turning an SRP TRI-PIN bolt replacement locking pin 60° and closing the secondary lock to hold it in place. Similarly when pulling the stack joints are disconnected from one-another by turning the TRI-PIN into the open position.
The TRI-PIN connections are either locked open or locked closed by means of a rig-ergonomic locking indicator device. When the TRI-PIN is unlocked an indicator clearly shows this so that the driller can be sure of the connection before running the joint.
The Tri-Pins are retained in the flange to reduce loose parts. No specialist tooling is required to engage the lock. The Tri-Pin connection enables simple inspection and safe reliable operation with visual confirmation of the locking mechanism operation.
- Low pressure marine drilling riser.
- Low pressure or structural load connections where quick make-up and/or high fatigue resistance are required.
