Much has been written about the re-application of the well-proven technology, thermal shrink-fitting, as a means of pipe coupling. SRP’s pioneering use of shrink-fitting has enabled the use of ultra-high strength steels at large diameters for applications in high pressure drilling riser, Christmas-trees (under license), tapered stress joints and touch-down-zone joints for steel catenary riser systems.
Shrink-fitting has the advantage of avoiding complex welding which is particularly challenging with high strength steels and titaniums. Furthermore after both male and female components are machined with a special shrink-fit profile the process of making the shrink-fit connection is safe, quick and repeatable.
Information about SRP’s Shrink-Fit coupling for both steel to steel and steel to titanium application has been published and may be accessed in the Technical Papers section of this site.
Furthermore some industry journals have chosen to write articles about the Shrink-Fit technology and this material is also made available in the Web Publications section of this site.
